Continuous model of opinion dynamics with convictions

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this note we study a new kinetic model of opinion dynamics. The incorporates two forces – alignment opinions under all-to-all communication driving the system to consensus, and Rayleigh type friction force that drives each 'player' its fixed conviction value. balance between these creates non-trivial limiting outcome. We establish existence global mono-opinion state, whereby any initial distribution for value aggregates Dirac measure concentrated on single opinion. We identify several cases where such state is unique depends continuously convictions. Several regularity properties are presented.

Noisy continuous-opinion dynamics

We study the Deffuant et al. model for continuous–opinion dynamics under the influence of noise. In the original version of this model, individuals meet in random pairwise encounters after which they compromise or not depending of a confidence parameter. Free will is introduced in the form of noisy perturbations: individuals are given the opportunity to change their opinion, with a given probab...

Continuous-Time Average-Preserving Opinion Dynamics with Opinion-Dependent Communications

We study a simple continuous-time multi-agent system related to Krause’s model ofopinion dynamics: each agent holds a real value, and this value is continuously attracted by everyother value differing from it by less than 1, with an intensity proportional to the difference. We prove convergence to a set of clusters, with the agents in each cluster sharing a commonvalue, and provi...

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for a continuous-time opinion dynamics model with state-dependent connectivity

We prove that the continuous-time discrete-agent system studied in [1] admits a unique solution for almost all initial conditions. We consider the following continuous-time model: each of n agents, labeled 1, . . . , n, maintains a real number xi(t), which is a continuous function of time, and evolves according to xi(t) = xi(0) + ∫ t

Rise of the Centrist: from Binary to Continuous Opinion Dynamics

We propose a model that extends the binary “united we stand, divided we fall” opinion dynamics of Sznajd-Weron to handle continuous and multi-state discrete opinions. Disagreement dynamics are often ignored in continuous extensions of the binary rules, so we make the most symmetric continuum extension of the binary model that can treat the consequences of agreement (debate) and disagreement (co...

On the Steady State of Continuous Time Stochastic Opinion Dynamics

The present paper proposes a computational framework for continuous time opinion dynamics with additive noise. We derive a non-local partial differential equation for the distribution of opinions differences. We use Mellin transforms to solve the stationary solution of this equation in closed form. This approach can be applied both to linear dynamics on an interaction graph and to bounded confi...
